RICHLAND, WA. – AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been awarded a Project Management Office (PMO) contract from the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Association (PNWHA) to provide oversight and reporting services to the United States Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED). The PNWHA aims to develop a clean hydrogen network of suppliers and end users and replace fossil fuels in hard to decarbonize commercial and industrial applications in the Pacific Northwest.
“Hydrogen energy plays a significant role in powering the global transition to net zero,” said Joe St. Julian, President, AtkinsRéalis, Nuclear. “Our exceptional low carbon technology specialists and project personnel enable us to provide our industrial, transport and building sector clients with a trusted partner to guide them from project origination through commercial application to meet their needs in this ever-changing global energy market.”
AtkinsRéalis will, on behalf of PNWHA, be responsible for administering all subrecipient agreements, providing project management oversight, and facilitating required reporting to OCED on project status. AtkinsRéalis will manage the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub (PNWH2) contract from its newly completed AtkinsRéalis Technology Center in Richland, Washington.
AtkinsRéalis’ experience managing large DOE programs and its active projects delivering green ammonia facilities in Atlantic Canada and Asia, Middle East and Australia (AMEA), blue hydrogen projects in the US and Scotland and salt cavern hydrogen storage in England were key to being selected by the PNWH2 to help establish a benchmark for economically viable hydrogen production. The PNWH2 is one of the first Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs to receive Bipartisan Infrastructure Act funding. The PNWH2 is expected to generate more than 10,000 well-paying jobs in Washington, Oregon and Montana, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening energy security to improve people’s lives and futures.
“We possess an exceptional track record of success throughout the entire hydrogen value chain from electrolyser design and manufacturing to development, engineering, design, construction and commissioning of full facilities,” said Joe McBrearty, Interim President, AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear. “It’s through this knowledge that we can confidently reduce our clients’ technology and economic risks along their net zero journey.”
The DOE plans to establish six to ten regional clean hydrogen hubs across America.
